At the end of each day, make a To Do List for the next day. Include personal and family related tasks as well as your professional to-do’s. Check each thing off as you get it done. Consider getting a whiteboard to have your to-do list in front of you at all times.
2. Find Your Optimal Work Time
We all have our optimal working sweet spot at different times of the day. Some of us work best in the morning, some in the afternoon, some at night, and others in the wee hours of the morning.
The key is to plan as much as possible to work on deep thinking projects when you’re most alert and list out smaller, routine tasks at times when you’re more likely to be interrupted.
One of the top benefits of working from home is that you are not bound to business hours. Tap into your body’s “clock” to make the most of this flexibility.
3. Claim Your Work Space.
It doesn’t matter how your work space looks like or where it is. It can be a dedicated home office or a corner in the busy living room.
The important thing is that you clearly define your work space and that your family respects it.
4. Create Boundaries on Your Time
Just as you set boundaries for your work space, you also need to set them on your time.
Ask friends and family to not call or text you during your most productive hours, let the kids know that there is no loud playing at certain times, check your emails only once a day, etc.
Time can really slip away when you don’t have set office hours. Don’t let that happen to you. And finally, number
5: When you have gotten a good amount of work done, reward yourself with something special.
We all need a pat of the back and, when working from home, that pat may need to come from ourselves.
Treat yourself and your kids to an ice cream, or buy that special something off Amazon that you’ve been wanting… do something that makes you feel good about yourself and what you’ve accomplished.
Positive reinforcement helps us to tackle the next hurdle with strength and courage.
